- I have a Microcom DeskPorte Fast ES 28.8 (v.34) serial port modem. It has
- been known to connect regularly to Multitek and Microcom modems at 26400 and
- 28800. Last fall, I moved to a semirural community from which I have
- connected to both Multitek and Microcom modems at >26400. The stickler is
- that the modems I have to connect to here are USR Sportsters.
-
- When I first moved here, I was lucky to get a decent 14400 connection
- (v.32bis, v.34 resulted in a maximum of an unstable 9600). Things
- miraculously improved in October and I was able to acheive 19,200 connections
- with the rare 21600. I have recently done some testing, with different init
- strings, etc and I have not been able to improve things.
-
- I could live, reluctantly, with 19,200 but it isn't stable. Throughout the
- course of the connection the speed will steadily fall back (similar to USR and
- Supra spiraling death?) until the modems disconnect. Often the connection
- will only be up 15 minutes before the connection is dropped. I have tried
- everything.
-
- The Microcom guy told me last fall that there were no known problems between
- Microcoms and USRs but my problems tend to dispute that claim.
-
- My init string is:
-
- AT&C1&D2W2&Q5
-
- &C1 - CD follows state of carrier
- &D2 - Modem hangs up
- W2 - Report DCE speed
- &Q5 - Error corrected link
-
- Any help would be appreciated. Pleas respond via email.
